Shaniwar wada
My own city |
Shaniwar Wada is a very important place in Indian history. Built by the Peshwas of the Maratha King, this ancient fort is built of stone and brick, and has high architectural value as well. However, only the stone part of the Wada could survive by a combination of British military attacks and fires through the centuries. This palace fort has nearly been destroyed.
The capital of the Maratha Empire shifted from Satara to Pune. Bajirao chose Pune for his seat because he found the climate and geography of Pune most suitable for the Peshwai so Bajirao built fort in 1732, it was the seat of the Peshwas of the Maratha Empire until 1818, then the Peshwas lost control to the British East India Company after the Third Anglo-Maratha War.
Why Name Shaniwar Wada
